Why Stella’s Paws?

House Fire & Stella

On January 5th, 2018 Stella crossed the rainbow bridge in a house fire. When three fire crews could not find Stella in the house the day of the fire, her family was convinced she had escaped the blaze. The call went out the to our friends, neighbors, and generally all of Facebook for help.  We could not believe how many people turned out on a VERY COLD night. Thousands of people helped join the search. Friends, family, and concerned members of the community shared Facebook posts, Craigslist advertisements, and hundreds of posters and fliers. Perfect strangers drove around the neighborhood all night, while others braved below-zero temps, crawling under houses and through backyards.  You could literally hear people calling her name all over our part of Richfield and into Edina.  Although her family was (and still is) heartbroken when her body was discovered the next day, the experience was not lost on them.

To honor the selflessness of the community and Stella’s memory, we’re creating an organization to fund the creation and distribution of posters and fliers (one of the best ways to find lost dogs).  “Stella’s Paws” mission will be to get missing dogs and cats back to their families faster by paying for the cost of printing flyers, targeted digital marketing, and more.  We’re still ironing out the details, but we want to help lost pets find their way home by following Stella’s Paws.
